Artist Notes:
"Spy" has been hanging around my studio for over a year. It started as a simple mask. Then I mounted it on a panel with an abstracted landscape. Still, it wasn't quite right. I removed it from the panel and reassessed what it wanted to be. As it quietly spied on me daily, I realized who it was. The spy secretly keeps watch on others while trying to disappear or appear as one of the crowd.
Experiments with acrylic paint over gold leaf produced interesting color and surface effects. I have incorporated this technique into several pieces recently and will continue to explore.
