“Ultimately I seek the engagement of the audience on an emotional level; the uplifting energy and joy that arises through colour and connection. You have to feel it.”

About Me

Painting is the essence of me. It is my interpretations, my feelings, my desires, my losses, my energy and my passion. I love the feeling of the paint gliding beneath my hand revealing something of me that I would otherwise struggle to communicate. Sometimes it is smooth. Sometimes scratchy. Sometimes it keeps pace with the music. Sometimes more restrained. Sometimes it is done with just my bare hands. In the beginning, I often use graphite scribbles and drawings to underpin the very rawest of the emotions that propel the painting into being. Once the painting has started to take shape, or is almost complete, I find I want to squiggle into the painting again with an oil stick or small paint brush. Perhaps to finalise the emotion or feeling being portrayed. Or perhaps to express the inner dialogue, the noise or the frivolity of a moment. Other times, to signify a unique structure or physical attribute inspired by the landscape and nature. My approach to painting is spirited with a deliberate use of contrast and expressive gestural marks. I want my art to connect with people; to inspire a sense of optimism, bold inspiration, and a feeling of something familiar. Ultimately I seek the engagement of the audience on an emotional level; the uplifting energy and joy that arises through colour and connection. You have to feel it.

Examples of My Work

Fun Facts

Books: My favourite book is “All the Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr
Administration: I hate details, data, recording, anything spreadsheet or finance related.
Nature: I need to be in nature on a daily basis. It is my comfort, my muse and my greatest teacher.
Life: I loathe grocery shopping. Sometimes I imagine myself dancing down the aisle Christopher Walken style from the Fat Boy Slim video clip ‘Weapon of Choice’. Whatever gets you through!
Music: Is everything. I wouldn’t be the same person without it.

More About Me

What inspires you?

Just do it. Pick up the paint brush, pencil or oil stick and let IT do the talking. You don’t get to decide if you are in the mood or not. Commit to 10 minutes and see what happens. You might just find there is something there after all. “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working” Pablo Picasso

What other non-artist jobs have you had?

Other non-artist jobs I have had include working as a nutritionist, primary teacher and beef jerky business owner. I have also dabbled in chocolatiering and working as a kitchen hand/cook.

What is your hidden talent or claim to fame?

My hidden talent is that I can do headstands and hold them for extended periods of time. I have been doing them since I was about 8 years old. I hope I am still doing them when I am 90.
