Lisa Muller is an artist who sees stories in everything—from books and movies to random encounters in the supermarket. She has always had a knack for getting people to open up and share their experiences. For Lisa, stories are the heartbeat of human connection, and she’s made them the central theme of her art.

As a child, Lisa’s creative curiosity was sparked by her parents, who transformed their suburban home into a workshop of dreams. A cabin boat in the basement, a working iron forge in the garage—nothing was off-limits when it came to DIY projects. This environment instilled in Lisa the belief that she could create whatever she wanted. It was this can-do spirit that led her to turn her passion for storytelling into art.

“Merging an idea with the limitation of materials releases a kind of magic for me.”

Lisa’s approach to painting is a blend of abstract and narrative. She begins with an acrylic base, adds collage elements, then sometimes layers oil and cold wax on top. Sometimes her finalized pieces end up as all acrylic media, or all graphite. Lisa’s process allows her to build a painting with layers, each one adding depth to the story she is telling. The flexibility of her techniques means she can experiment with different materials—pencils, markers, crayons, oil pastels—without worrying about strict chemical rules. This freedom is key to her creativity.

Lisa’s work is a reflection of her love for open-ended storytelling. She often describes her artistic process as a way to clear her mind, allowing her to release the backlog of ideas and stories that constantly swirl in her head. For Lisa, painting is not just about creating art; it’s about keeping the stories flowing.

Lisa’s latest collection of original pieces will be unveiled at our next virtual art show “An Unexpected Twist“, which opens on Wednesday, May 29th at 10am MT. The show will close on Friday, May 31st at 6pm MT. Be sure to create your free Collector Account early so you are prepared for the show open!
