Throwing Stones

In my collection of art, I embarked on a journey of reimagination, taking simple but iconic characters as my starting point and then setting them adrift in a sea of "What if" questions. My process was far from linear; each character underwent numerous iterations as they took the reins, ultimately guiding the narrative in unexpected directions. Through many layers of paint, this cast of characters tried on various "costumes" of resilience, tenderness, and humor, ultimately settling into versions of themselves that felt authentic and compelling. I’m delighted to present these reimagined heroines and to learn about their next chapters as they make their way out into the world.

 Creating “Throwing Stones”

 This piece started with layers of texture and color. Soon, that little face emerged, and she instantly gave off little sister vibes to me. I love her mixture of softness and toughness - her sweet yellow dress and knobbly knees - her slingshot and peace sign.

Is she a warrior?
A peace keeper?
 Is she preparing for to stand for battle or boldly sitting and putting down her own weapon amidst the flying rocks?

 I adore this little one and that upturned face makes me believe that she’s got more story to tell - I’m curious to hear what next chapter comes to life when you look at her.
