"Sometimes, Rain is Red" actually makes me think of a rather surreal dessert restaurant in Key West that I visited over 15 years ago. The interior was dark and draped and it remains a rich and vivid and velvety and saturated image in my painter's mind today. But those Gulf colors are there too, especially that teal. And I mixed my own "German silver" for the metallics - silver with a bit of warm gold added to take the cool sting out of that ever-present horizon. It glows as a thick, textured division in this rainy landscape.

About my Rains Series: My Rains Series is inspired by my love of everything "water" - from the Pacific Ocean itself to the rains I loved for years around my previous home and studio in Oregon. This series launched my experimentation into mixing oil and watercolor paints. Like all my abstracts, my Rains are also inspired by the colors and shapes of the urban and rural terrains I've discovered on my travels throughout North American and Europe. Each paintings is layers of oil paint and metallic watermedia paints.
