While the premise of Origami Oracle is playful, this piece was created amidst the hum of a persistent collective hum of uncertainty and a quiet, aching desire to know what would come next.
The cootie catcher, a simple children’s game, becomes her instrument of divination. It is fragile, handmade, imprecise. It cannot truly predict anything. And yet, in her hands, it holds gravity. She approaches it with sincerity, as though certainty might be folded into its creases.
This piece is about that longing — the very human wish to peer ahead and soften the shock of what is to come. But it is also about coping. About turning, in difficult times, toward small rituals and remembered pleasures. The act of folding paper, of asking a question, of participating in a game from childhood becomes a way to steady oneself.
