My approach to creating a collection for “An Expected Twist” was to focus on the ‘unexpected’ combination and/or use of materials, with an added ‘twist’ of little moments of surprise in the details. The Viking knit chain, which is a weaving technique, my version of a twist, is something I have always wanted to try. I love the texture of the chain and weaving the simple fine gauge wire is transformed into a three-dimensional object.
The surprise with this piece is the reveal of the pyrite matrix in the stone. We do not know what will be revealed from the rough nugget until the stone is cut. When you turn the piece over the continuation of the matrix pattern just peaks through the open back plate. This is a heavy piece and one of a kind like most of my pendants. Turquoise is one of my favorite stones and they keep getting bigger!
The 6-loop fine silver Viking knit chain is 17” long including the clasp. The clasp is made of sterling silver as is the bail. The turquoise was cut for me from the rough stone I purchased. The back and bezel are fine silver.
