Artist Notes:

My approach to creating a collection for “An Expected Twist” was to focus on the ‘unexpected’ combination and/or use of materials, with an added ‘twist’ of little moments of surprise in the details. The Viking knit chain, which is a weaving technique, my version of a twist, is something I have always wanted to try. I love the texture of the chain and weaving the fine gauge wire into a three-dimensional object.

I have a talented assistant who is primarily a stone cutter who regularly brings his latest pieces to the studio when he works with me. I am drawn to solid-colored stones with few natural inclusions or marks in them and the creaminess, shape and warmth of this stone he brought in was irresistible.

The design came about by sketching different ways of pairing the cognac diamond with the agate which I knew I wanted to pair with the stone. As is usual in my work, mixing gold and silver brings an element of drama to the piece, looks beautiful with the gold, and accentuates the warmth of the agate. Pairing the precious diamond with the non-precious agate is my ‘unexpected’ twist to this piece and it was another opportunity to use my second woven chain.

The 4-loop woven Viking knit chain is approximately 17” long, including the clasp, and is made of fine silver; it is .13” in diameter. The clasp is sterling and fine silver. The pendant hangs just a hair over 2.25” and is 5/8th inches at the widest point.
