Chasing is the art of adding shape and texture to a surface with small tools and a hammer. After I raised this vessel from a flat circle (no soldering at all!) I filled it with wax to support the pressure and then hammered the texture into the surface. Each little line is a separate tool strike. A darkening patina makes the texture stand out, and several coats of wax should keep the color consistent over time. This vessel will hold water for flowers, but not for drinking. Clean with a soft cloth, and additional coats of wax may be applied as needed. After applying the wax, rub with a soft cloth (microfiber works well) and a dry toothbrush will help clean the wax buildup in the textured lines.
