This piece began as a very different work, but it never felt fully resolved—there was something missing. While I kept the part I loved—the texture—I rebuilt the top with layers of collage. Once my curious crow arrived, the warm earth tones, vintage buttons, and glints of gold completed the story.
Part of my Abstracted Nature series, it's inspired by my love of gardening and the wildlife it draws in. Each painting begins with an abstract collage, built from fragments of botanical prints made using plants gathered from my garden. I often incorporate image transfers, leaf imprints, vintage notions, ephemera, and other materials to add depth, texture, and narrative.
