Michele Messenger, an encaustic artist and graphic designer, has long been captivated by the rich, tactile nature of encaustic painting. After taking her first class in 2012 with artist Victoria Eubanks, Michele quickly fell in love with the medium—drawn to its translucent layers, the luscious textures it creates, and even the smell of beeswax.

“Encaustic painting is painting with wax. It’s a centuries-old technique and was the first portable art medium.”

Michele’s approach to encaustic art is playful and exploratory. She enjoys experimenting with the balance between translucency and opacity, often layering materials to create dynamic, textured works. Her journey has been shaped by learning alongside others, including years of assisting at the Art Students League of Denver, where she honed her skills and developed her own artistic voice.

As both an artist and teacher, Michele shares her passion for encaustic painting with others, teaching classes at Outside the Box Studio, Prism Arts Workshop, and the Art Students League of Denver. For her, the joy comes not only from creating but from helping others discover the magic of this unique medium.

Michele continues to connect with art lovers through select fairs each year, bringing her whimsical encaustic creations to a wider audience.

Her latest collection of original pieces will be unveiled at our next virtual art show “Fancy That“, which opens on November 14th at 10am MST. The show will close on November 16th at 4pm MST. Be sure to create your free Collector Account early so you are prepared for the show open!
