“Our lives create a layered, beautiful story filled with places, people, and experiences, both the good and the bad, both the seen and the unseen.”
About Me
I tell my own stories and those of collectors through paper and paint. I’m inspired by nature and the whispered, deeper narrative found in the trees, skies, mountains, and fields that connect with our stories. In every piece, there is a the surprise of subtle collage materials that peek through the paint and create a new layer of meaning and interpretation. My works range in size from tiny 6″ x 6″ to large 4′ x 4′ pieces and beyond. I’ve been creating in mixed media for the last 20+ years and can’t imagine doing anything else with my life. For me, to paint and to be in nature is when I feel most alive.
Examples of My Work
Fun Facts
- Music–I played three instruments in while in school: piano, saxophone and bassoon.
- Family–not surprisingly, my maiden name, “Ferster” means “keeper of the forest” in German
- Fails– I failed my driver’s license test three times before finally passing. I would like to say it was because I was distracted with the nature around me, but it’s mainly because of parallel parking.
- Health–I’ve been a type 1 diabetic since I was 5 years old.
- Sports–While I didn’t pursue sports very much in school, I’ve come to love running and soccer. My husband and I play on a rec. soccer team for fun.
More About Me
What inspires you?
Andrew Wyeth is one of my all time favorite artists and I’ve studying him and his work. His compositions, color palette and style have greatly impacted my own.
Which artist (famous or not) has influenced you the most and how?
The flowers in my garden.
What other non-artist jobs have you had?
Most of my non-artist jobs have been in retail and customer service. Working at department stores, greenhouses, and grocery stores. This has always been a great balance for me as an extrovert artist since art making is often done alone.
