About Me
After a 20-year career as a professional photographer, I have chosen to change my focus to art on canvas. I had grown up with artists, from the Maxfield Parrish side of my family, and the smell of oil paint and mineral spirits was comforting to me. I have lived at the Oregon Coast for the last 8 years where my artistic journey began in my studio, bordered by the Necanicum River leading to the Pacific Ocean.
With my new work, I am playing with colorful pattern designs in my mixed media creations, a blend of painting and collage. Undulating lines and shapes form mesmerizing geometric patterns which are mathematically precise, yet intentionally imperfect. My hand-cut collage elements and inexact brushwork lend organic texture and pops of sizzling vibrancy to the rhythmic designs.
I am influenced by patterns and shapes throughout post-modern history. Some of my work is reminiscent of the 50’s & 60’s Mid-Century Modern era with pastel colors, tapered lines, and galactic shapes. Then there are elements of the 70’s “groovy” eye-bending patterns and motion. Some of my work even evokes an older era of hand pieced quilting patterns.
I use pattern and repetition as opportunities for reflection and meditation. Textured pieces appeal to my sense of touch.
