About Me
I am a 4th generation Coloradan. My childhood was filled with low-tech toys, comic books, cartoons and art/craft classes. I studied art in college where I focused on 2-D work, mainly drawing. Time passed, kids were raised, many "careers" were explored but I still had yet to find myself creatively. It wasn't until my 40's that I started making my characters and that became my full-time "job". I spent several years doing Fine Art Shows but now focus mainly on just a few shows per year. I live In Greeley, CO with my husband of 45 yrs and our 2 dogs.
Fun Facts
I participated in a Lakota sweat lodge.
I was a baker/barista at a small coffee shop for a few years (yum).
I really enjoy hunting for cicada skins every summer.
I have a weakness for weirdly shaped rocks. They are souvenirs from most trips we take.
I started collecting beer advertising glasses when I was a kid in the 70's. I have no idea why.
More About Me
What is the funniest or most unexpected reaction someone has had to your work?
Early in my art career, I did a small holiday show. A couple walked into my booth, looked around and left. Shortly after, the man returned on his own and spent quite a while looking and laughing. All he said was "They are painful yet ingratiating". That was 15 yrs ago and I still think about it.
Whose artwork do you collect, and what draws you to their art?
I have several of Valerie Shanks' pieces. We met at a show I did in Kansas City. She's a wonderful person and her work is incredible and it makes me laugh.
How do you hope people feel when they engage with your art?
My biggest hope is that my work makes people smile. If they laugh then I consider that the highest compliment. I'm pretty introverted so I let my work speak for me.
