When I walk into the studio each day I ask myself:
What magic will I create today?

About Me

I had always wanted to be an artist but life got in the way.
I jumped onto adulthood with bills to pay and a child to raise. It led me on a successful path but did not include time for dreaming.

Fast forward 30 years when life came full circle, things were lost and things were found and I started creating. I stuck my hands in clay for the first time in October 2017 in the garage studio of a friend and I never looked back.

I create quirky, whimsical figures that draw you in to deeply personal human stories.
My art is poised between the safety of whimsy and the darkness of the things we find hard to say.

Each figure is hand sculpted in kiln fired paperclay and painted in underglaze washes, typically fired multiple times to create a gritty, illustrative quality.

After a piece is completed I spend time journaling about the art and my experience creating it trying to excavate the deeper meaning that I know is present in the piece.

Which artist (famous or not) has influenced you the most and how?

Sculptor Sara Swink. She is someone I admired from afar for years before I started my journey in clay. During the pandemic I was teaching via Zoom and one week her name appeared on my class list. She has become a dear friend.
