Meet Ghislaine...

"“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” ~Leonardo da Vinci."

Ghislaine Cleiren is a multi-media artist working in mixed media and fibre art in Calgary, Alberta. She was born and raised in Belgium, where she was surrounded by art and creativity.
The process of exploring realistic images and breaking them down into abstract minimalist paintings includes looking for simplicity of line, shape and unexpected color variations. Her abstract and representational work in acrylic, watercolor, oil and mixed media is a journey to capture the beauty and joy of life. She finds inspiration in nature and in the world around her. She loves to express the infinity in wide horizons, forever going landscapes, and in the depths of delicate flowers.

Ghislaine’s journey as an artist has been one of exploration and discovery. She has been making lace and fibre art since an early age. Inspired by her mentor and teacher Andie Wicherts, who used fibre in her collection, Ghislaine started exploring possibilities in visual arts. She enrolled in different art workshops throughout Calgary and Online: Creative Visionary Program, Finding your Joy, Finding Your Vision and NHA. She has completed courses in Art History, Abstract Drawing, Art Style and Design. She has studied painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor), Silk Painting, Silk Screening, Mixed Media Collage and other art forms at Alberta College of Arts and with different artists throughout Calgary. Since she designs and teaches bobbin lacemaking, she is consistently looking for unique ways to combine her original lace designs with painting in mixed media compositions that bring surprise and wonder to the viewer. Her work is a testament to the power of creativity to heal, transform, and inspire, and a reminder that even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, there is always hope.

Ghislaine is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Contextural - a Fibre Artist Cooperative, the Leighton Art Centre, the Calgary Creative Arts Guild, IOLI and the Adventurous Lacemakers – international organizations of Lacemakers. Ghislaine’s work has been exhibited in group shows and is found in private collections throughout North America and Europe.
