Meet Annie...
"Joyfully Persevere: Have joy in your continued effort to do or achieve something beyond what you thought was possible"
Hi, I’m Annie!
Creating artwork is my way of capturing those fleeting moments and lasting memories that might otherwise slip by—in a still life, a landscape, or ordinary objects.
In my studio in Portland, Oregon, I immerse myself in the process, usually with music or an audiobook playing in the background. My work blends realism with a touch of abstraction, often layered with collage and mixed media. I may begin with a plan, but what happens next is a mix of intuition, technique, and the way the paint responds.
After a stroke in 2010 left my right side paralyzed, I taught myself to paint with my left hand. That challenge reshaped how I approach my art and gave me a deeper appreciation for persistence, adaptability, and the gift of creating.
Today, I split my time between painting, teaching in my home studio, and creating commissioned pieces that capture what’s most meaningful to others.
I’m deeply grateful for the time I spend in my studio—a safe place where I feel a true sense of belonging and capability.

More About Me
Describe your creative process.
I take photos of still lifes and everyday outdoor scenes, often buildings, and crop them to find strong compositions. I work on panels, layering gel medium, and collage before drawing and painting.
Tell us about your art studio.
My studio is in a downstairs basement with white walls and a dedicated painting wall. I have a drawing board and computer workspace, and everything is on rollers so I can easily shift and reconfigure the space.
How do you hope people feel when they engage with your art?
I hope people feel a sense of curiosity, and connection—invited to slow down, look closely, and notice everyday moments in a new way.
