About Me
As a long-time meditation practitioner, I notice that what’s right before my eyes often gets obscured by the thinking mind. Making art helps me ground the practice of awareness in the present moment.
So I’m interested not only in the subjects I paint, but also the process itself. I try to capture the ineffable atmosphere in which things take place—the quality of mind that accommodates all things.

More About Me
What other non-artist jobs have you had?
I taught Ashtanga Yoga for thirty years. I was trained as a psychotherapist, and by the time I earned my MA degree, I was teaching yoga and meditation to my mental health clients. Eventually I was invited to teach yoga programs at a series of luxury resorts throughout SE Asia.
What inspires you?
I love mountains. I love the silence, rarified air, the pine trees, wildlife and being close to wilderness. I also love that Eastern spiritual traditions recognize mountains as being the "home of the gods". I have gone on many pilgrimages throughout the Himalayan mountains, and sat in caves where Buddhist saints reportedly spent their lives.

Astrology! I am fascinated by the correlation between planets and the events in our lives - my suspicion is that the stars and planets were the original "gods" of Greek and Roman times, and that they are still very much present today if we only listen.
