One of the most marvelous things about making wearables is that they can be made from anything. Beading is what first introduced me into jewelry making – the gateway drug as I tell my students. I am thrilled to share with you my ‘first love’ of beading in the collection for Divine. Beads never left me but as the cost of precious metals continues to be high, I have tapped into my resourcefulness and my past to meet the challenge to continue making my work.
Most of the beads are handmade; some are from distant lands; all the pieces have a precious metal incorporated even if it is just the clasp. Enameling, in a small way, has made its debut in this collection from my experimenting with liquid enamel earlier this year. The rings in the collection were created to match the necklaces and bracelets. I hope you enjoy this joyful and colorful collection.
I have artist friends who work in all kinds of media, and they will gift me 'scraps' if I show an interest. The Purple Heart wood is from a colleague who makes guitars. A thin strip of the wood was cut into tiny square pieces and drilled with a hole to become beads. The solid silver square beads were also hand cut and individually drilled. The spiral 'African paper' style beads are enameled thin copper. The beads were made by cutting long thin strips of thin copper and rolled up to create a bead, coated with liquid white enamel and fired in a kiln. I created the enameled beads during an art retreat at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in January.
The necklace is 17.5" long and is threaded on nylon coated steel wire. The clasp is sterling silver with a small bit of rose gold. There are three enameled beads. This piece is one of a kind.

I use USPS Priority Mail flat rate small box for the USA and Canada. For Canada, the value of the item will be based on the materials which will be much less than the retail price.
