Aluminum used to be a very rare metal, but today is found in trash heaps everywhere. In my backyard (I live surrounded by junk) there is a disintegrating industrial freezer, lined with aluminum sheet. I love the pale color, and the slightly pitted surface tells a little of its history. I wanted to use the aluminum, taking it out of the junkyard and giving it new purpose. I created a three-dimensional shape, forming the tapered vessel using tools to bend it and rivets to hold it together. Each hammer blow is recorded on top of the pits and scratches, adding to the history while creating something new. This vessel will not hold water.
