Meet Michele…
Do you know what encaustic is? I must ask that question a fagillion times! Not a lot of art lovers are familiar with encaustic, which is at the most basic, painting with wax. It is a centuries-old technique that is definitely alive and well in today’s art world. My approach is often whimsical with simple shapes and a more muted palette. My pieces can range from super translucent, highlighting wax’s ability to be just that, or heavily pigmented and in a lot of layers to be just a little extra. I have lived in Colorado for over 40 years, but grew up in Illinois and Indiana. That doesn’t explain why I do a lot of sheep, though. No clue why those girls keep popping up! I have many favorites about encaustic, but possibly the best is that most encaustic paintings (all of mine!) are touchable. The oils in your hands help make them shine and they absolutely begged to be touched. Go right ahead.
