Hannah Klaus Hunter is a collage artist whose work blends elements of printmaking and natural beauty. Originally from New York, Hannah has spent most of her life immersed in art, from studying at the University of Iowa and the California College of the Arts to creating commissioned pieces for healthcare facilities across the United States. Since relocating to Whidbey Island in Washington, she has been inspired by the lush plant life that surrounds her, incorporating it into her unique artistic process.

“Making art is a way of building an intimate relationship with your materials, an ongoing conversation between you, the colors and textures and forms, and that mysterious presence that some call inspiration or the muse. You never know what kind of magic will emerge.”

Hannah’s work focuses on botanical monoprints, where she captures the transient beauty of leaves through an intuitive and multi-layered technique. Her process involves collecting leaves during walks, applying paint to a printing plate, and creating one-of-a-kind prints. These prints are then assembled into collages, which form a visual journal of her experiences and interactions with nature.

Over the past decade, Hannah has refined her approach to this medium, using antique and vintage papers alongside acrylics to create abstract compositions. Her work offers viewers a glimpse into the natural world through her eyes, highlighting the delicate balance of color, form, and texture.

Art is not only a means of expression for Hannah but also a way to build an intimate relationship with her materials and surroundings. Her creations invite reflection on the fleeting beauty of nature and the marks we leave behind.

Her latest collection of original pieces will be unveiled at our next virtual art show “Fancy That“, which opens on November 14th at 10am MST. The show will close on November 16th at 4pm MST. Be sure to create your free Collector Account early so you are prepared for the show open!
