“My joy is to surround myself with color and motion!”

About Me

With color and motion as my tools, I try to capture the magic of the world that I felt as a child. When I step into the studio, I welcome back my child-like wonderment and freedom that allow me to reveal personal connections, hidden meanings and universal truths. I’m continually inspired by the bold, rich beauty of the Sonoran desert.

I was raised in southern California, but discovered my love for the desert in my grandparents Tucson backyard, where I spent summers watering the cactus and capturing horny toads. I happily returned to my love of art full-time when I retired from nursing in 2014. I now enjoy a daily painting practice in my Phoenix home studio and exhibit my work regularly throughout the valley. (I’m still watering the cactus!)

Examples of My Work

Fun Facts

  • Gardening: As a master gardener in my area, I once grew a quarter acre vegetable garden in the middle of the desert. (You should have seen my water bill!)
  • Work: For two exciting years, I worked as the nurse at our U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece.
  • Hobby: I dye wool from sheep in vibrant colors, then spin it into yarn on my spinning wheel.
  • Nature: I join my local wildlife, (javelinas, coyotes, and bobcats), for a 3 mile walk in the foothills near my home every morning.
  • Weather: I thrive in the heat and always look forward to 100 degree days.

More About Me

When did you know you were an artist?

In kindergarten, I made a Christmas ornament with my school picture, glitter and the top of a juice can. The pride of bringing it home and hanging it on our tree was so satisfying. The desire to create has stayed with me ever since!

What do you wish you could tell your younger artist self?

Don’t quit your daydream. In other words, don’t discount or turn away from the thing that lights you up. Nurture it and allow it to guide your life.

What is your hidden talent or claim to fame?

I’m a “knitting nerd” and have written and published over 20 knitting patterns.
