You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.

About Me

I'm a Denver-based graphic designer who, after years painting in oil and watercolor, discovered encaustics after a friend encouraged me to take a workshop at the Art Students League of Denver. From the first fuse, I fell in love with everything about the medium—from the smell of the wax to the magical way it fuses each layer together, inviting both intention and chance.

My process begins with intuitive play as I build encaustic layers of contrast, texture and color. I collage botanical solar prints created using plants from my garden with other elements, such as leaf impressions, vintage buttons, notions and ephemera. I love the interplay between natural elements and the manmade. As I work, a theme gradually emerges, and I’m always fascinated by how the elements come together to tell a story.

Examples of My Work

Fun Facts

  • Gardening—"I live in my garden, I just sleep in my house."
  • Rosie—she is the love of my life; all 15 lbs. of wagging, twirling, furry happiness.
  • Entertainment—I love cozy English mysteries. Light on violence (a bonk on the head or a little posion will usually suffice), clues abound and the killer is always caught.
  • Adventures—I've traveled the roads of Iceland (waterfalls & glaciers), Newfoundland (Icebergs, anyone!), Great Britian, Ireland and most recently, New Zealand (waterfalls, penguins and albatross!).
  • My hammock—It's where I go to daydream, nap or just hang out with Rosie.

More About Me

What do you wish you could tell your younger artist self?

Relax. Life will happen, so take chances, make mistakes and remember to have fun along the way.

What other non-artist jobs have you had?

Graphic designer, pet adoption counselor and humane education assistant.

When did you know you were an artist?

A better question is "When didn't I know?" Since childhood art has been a source of comfort, retreat and self expression. My earliest memories revolve around making art. Art class was my happy place.
