Always stay true to the process. The final product will come from that energy.

About Me

I paint abstractly because it communicates my inner world in the most succinct and honest outer way. Because acrylics are quick-drying and easy to layer, they are able to showcase a past that shines through even when a painting is finished. I enjoy witnessing the histories and stories in my pieces, seeing colors come and go and recurring patterns mimic throughout pieces. There is no preconceived idea, rather I work intuitively, allowing the painting to unfold as it needs to. I have inspirations and impulses that bring me to the canvas and my process taps into where I am in the moment. Taking risks, not holding on too preciously, playing, and being curious guide my art-making. My hope is that viewers feel alive when they look at my work, that they feel moved in an emotional way.

More About Me

What one (art) item can you not do or go without?

Blue shop towels and a spray bottle of water...I know that that is two! Shop towels are amazing tools for smearing and blending paint, stamping and cleaning up messes. And the spray bottle is constantly by my side, keeping my paints on the palette moist and adding fun drips to my paintings.

When did you know you were an artist?

I have always known, since I was very little drawing made up worlds in my bedroom. I went to a Waldorf school, which is very arts focused, and took art classes throughout high school and college. My parents are and always have been very supportive of my artistic pursuits. It wasn't until I was pregnant with my first child that I started to create abstract paintings as a way to process the myriad of feelings. I haven't stopped painting in this style and credit my first-born to making me the type of artist I am today.

What do you wish you could tell your younger artist self?

Learn the rules to break the rules.
You don't have to make realistic art.
You can use black.
Look inside more than you look outside.
If the process makes you feel alive, you are on the right track.
